The next generation of Yarraville soccer stars can look forward to emulating their Matildas’ World Cup heroes under the bright lights thanks to the completion of new competition lighting at McIvor
Reserve.
Member for Williamstown Melissa Horne today joined representatives from home club Yarraville Glory to flick the switch and officially launch their new 200 lux LED pitch lights, made possible by more
than $176,000 from the Victorian Government’s World Game Facilities Fund.
With the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup just days away, clubs like Glory have seen a growth in female participation and more demand for pitch time.
The bright new lighting means more opportunity for local teams to ramp up their training and games.
The new lights also open up the venue to more community use including casual play, and local events.
The World Game Facilities Fund is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to sport and active recreation, gender equality, active lifestyles and stimulating local economies through job creation
to make a real difference to local communities.
The Fund has invested more than $19.3 million into 65 game-changing infrastructure projects to develop high-quality, accessible soccer infrastructure since 2018.
From new sports pavilions to pitch lighting, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible facilities that allow Victorians to reap the benefits of sport and active recreation
participation.
The Victorian Budget 2023-24 is providing more than $213 million to deliver and improve community sports infrastructure and support initiatives that boost participation and inclusion in local
sports clubs and organisations.
This brings the Victorian Government’s investment into community sport and active recreation infrastructure to more than $1.9 billion since 2014.
