Altona City footballers can look forward to playing extra time on three new upgraded pitches and a new pavilion at HC Kim Reserve, thanks to the Allan Labor Government.
Member for Williamstown Melissa Horne today joined representatives from Hobsons Bay City Council and Altona City Football Club to officially open the pitches and a new pavilion, made possible by an $800,000 government investment.
Football is one of Victoria’s fastest growing sports and HC Kim Reserve is at the heart of the action for over 380 Altona City footballers.
The works included a complete rebuild of pitch one and irrigation upgrades to pitches two and three ensuring improved surface quality and consistency, safety, more capacity and opportunities to boost women and girls’ participation.
The new pavilion is female friendly and features six change rooms, umpire facilities, first aid room, dividable multi-purpose social space and storage.
Together the new facilities provide a great new base for Altona City to host more training, games and the big events including local tournaments.
The Victorian Government investment includes $500,000 from the World Game Facilities Fund and $300,000 from the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Both funds are part of the more than $1.9 billion invested by the Victoria Government in community sport and active recreation infrastructure over the past decade.
The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is also providing more than $23 million to continue the delivery of community sport and active recreation infrastructure, and programs to increase participation opportunities and improve accessibility.
Melissa Horne MP acknowledged Hobsons Bay City Council for its financial contribution of almost $5 million and commitment to delivering the upgrades, and Altona City Soccer Club for its $100,000 contribution.
