Member for Williamstown, Melissa Horne attended and spoke at the Williamstown North Primary School 150th anniversary celebration. The event was held at the school gym to celebrate the 150 years of education provided by the school.
Founded in 1874, the school was a part of the State Government’s Education Act of 1872 which declared that schooling in Victoria for all children would be free, secular and compulsory.
Prior to this act, education had been catered for by a small number of church schools or private individuals who had operated in the district since 1838.
Since then, Williamstown North has delivered 150 years of upstanding educated focused on the values of respect, resilience and responsibility. The school has dedicated itself to creating a safe and inclusive environment for its students by providing a sensory room called the Butterfly Room, upgrading its learning facilities and promoting multiple wellbeing programs.
The 150th anniversary event focused on the longstanding efforts and dedication of the school and staff.
