Member for Williamstown, Melissa Horne attended the Spotswood Primary School children’s roundtable meeting to hear directly from children aged 6-12 years old on what improvements or support they require in school.
The meeting is an extension of the Raising Children in Victoria roundtable engagement series, where parents of children under 12 provided feedback on Victorian schools through a survey and attending 18 adult roundtable discussions held throughout 2024.
The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, in partnership with the Department of Health and Department of Education, delivered the series of roundtables.
Topics of discussion included maternal and child health, early childhood education and care, early parenting centres, kindergartens and family services.
The Spotswood Primary School roundtable meeting focused on feedback from the children to ensure student representation.
The event involved engaging with 20 Spotswood Primary School students in a roundtable discussion to ask questions regarding their experiences from kindergarten and primary school.
Topics included the students’ feedback on school services and possible improvements to encourage engaged learning.
The Allan Labor Government is investing a further $163.1 million to support early childhood education in the 2024-25 State Budget to run and improve programs that collect student and parent feedback.
Quotes attributable to Member for Williamstown, Melissa Horne
“Thanks to Spotswood Primary for hosting this invaluable conversation with 20 students of all primary school ages. It was such an engaging discussion with so many topics covered from school breakfast clubs through to the excitement and nervousness the students felt from moving from kinder to prep and then grade 6 to high school.”
