The Allan Labor Government has kicked off construction to build female soccer facilities for the Yarraville Glory Football Club, thanks to the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund.
Member for Williamstown Melissa Horne today announced Yarraville Glory Football Club received $1.18 million to build the new facilities – and is part of more than 260 projects supported by the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund.
The new changerooms will be built next to the existing Yarraville Glory Pavilion, creating better connections between the change rooms and the soccer pitches.
In addition, an electronic scoreboard and new goal storage area will also be installed to improve the experiemce for local players and spectators.
The new facilities will boost the club’s ability to cater for the expanding soccer community in Yarraville and will be ready for use later this year.
Since 2020, there has been a 357 percent growth in female participation at Yarraville Glory Football Club, with the upgraded facilities set to help accommodate for the increase in participation among women and juniors in soccer.
Having female-friendly changerooms will not only continue to break down barriers for women in sport but also create a comfortable and private space for female athletes at the club.
The project is being funded by the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project, with support from Maribyrnong City Council.
The Fund has supported more than 260 projects, with more than 85% of projects already delivered, including:
- behind the goal netting for Newport Power Junior FC
- stadium style seating at Donald McLean Reserve for Spotswood Sport Club
- electronic scoreboards for Altona Junior Football Club, Altona Hockey Club, and Power House Junior Rugby Union Football Club.
The $10 million West Gate Neighbourhood Fund was created to support communities in Melbourne’s inner west during construction of the West Gate Tunnel.
