Member for Williamstown, Melissa Horne attended the opening planting day at Brooklyn’s new community garden Patch in the Park.
Thanks to $250,000 in this year’s state budget, the Patch in the Park group has been able to create a new, inclusive gardening space in the heart of Brooklyn that is open to all residents of Brooklyn and the surrounding suburbs.
Patch in the Park is a not-for-profit, community-led, inclusive green space.
The park contains 41 self-watering Foodcubes, a fully equipped storage shed, an indigenous garden, seating nodes, composting, free water supply, kids play area, and it connects directly to the commercial kitchen in the Brooklyn Community Hall.
The new community gardens will provide an opportunity for residence to grow and harvest their own food, socialise with others, and take part in local gardening projects.
Patch in the Park is an accessible and inclusive space to encourage environmental engagement in the Brooklyn area.
The opening planting day represented the community’s efforts in producing the garden.
