Member for Williamstown, Melissa Horne joined Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll, and Hobsons Bay City Councillor and Deputy Mayor Rayane Hawli, to announce that the Australian Islamic Centre College (AIC) in Newport will be receiving $2.5 million in funding for school upgrades from The Building Fund for Non-Government Schools.
The $2.5 million in funding will support the construction of seven new classrooms, a boardroom, and a new staffroom for teachers and school staff.
The upgrades will cater to the school’s growing enrollment rate, create improved learning spaces for students, and deliver enhanced amenities for teachers.
The upgrades come as a part of the announcement by Minister for Education and Deputy Premier Ben Carroll that five Islamic schools will share in over $10.6 million to expand their combined enrollment capacities by almost 900 students.
The Labor Government has invested $18.5 billion to build new schools and has delivered more than 2,300 school upgrades, supporting over 30,000 jobs in construction and associated industries.
