The Allan Labor Government is moving ahead with plans to deliver 96 new social homes for families in Williamstown – close to the foreshore, public transport, and services.
The Bronte Court redevelopment is part of the second round of projects funded under the Housing Australia Future Fund. Construction on the new social homes is expected to kick off by June 2026 and be completed by June 2029.
Planning and community consultation for the new development will start later this year – including opportunities for locals to have their say on design and shared open spaces.
Originally built in 1962, the 41 apartments at Bronte Court had reached the end of their useful life and demolition works began in late 2024.
The new development will provide more safe and secure housing for Victorians who need it most – including women escaping family violence, older Victorians and Victorians who are sleeping rough.
Former residents of the site will have a right to return to the new modern, accessible and energy-efficient homes that will be built at the site.
The Second Round of the Housing Australia Future Fund will help build and operate 1,275 social homes – backed by $991 million from the Federal Government and $360 million from the Victorian Government.
The Victorian Government is also getting on with delivering its landmark Big Housing Build and Regional Housing Fund to deliver more than 13,300 more social and affordable homes across Victoria.
