The State Labor Government is delivering a safer, more connected community with a new shared use path bridge over Laverton Creek alongside the existing Queen Street bridge.
More than 16,000 vehicles use the current bridge every day, which has no dedicated separation for pedestrians and bike riders.
The new shared use path bridge which was funded in the 2024/25 Victorian State Budget will run parallel to the existing structure, creating a vital east-west link for pedestrians and cyclists and providing a safer, more accessible environment for all road users.
Simpson Construction Company has been awarded the construction contract, marking a major milestone for the project which will improve safety and connectivity by creating a dedicated and accessible path for bike riders and pedestrians, where they currently have to take a significant detour.
Crews are on-site undertaking important environmental assessments and pre-construction activities, ahead of major construction works set to begin in May 2026. Once complete, the new connection will give pedestrians and bike riders a safe and convenient route across the area.
