Altona hockey players will be taking their game to the next level thanks to a new hockey pavilion at J K Grant Reserve, backed by the Victorian Government.
Member for Williamstown, Melissa Horne was joined by representatives from Hobsons Bay City Council and the Altona Hockey Club to officially open the pavilion, made possible by a $220,000 investment from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
The project included the replacement of the old pavilion with a new facility featuring four change rooms with amenities and two umpire facilities all suitable for women and girls. It also has a multipurpose room, kitchen, office and storage.
The new hockey pavilion provides state-of-the-art facilities for all people in the community to get involved and pick up a hockey stick, while better meeting the needs of Altona Hockey Club’s more than 350 members, including over 170 women and girls.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and building the sporting facilities that our communities deserve. They improve safety for players and encourage greater participation for all.
The Victorian Budget 2025-26 is providing $20 million to support the development of high-quality, accessible community sports infrastructure across the state, including through the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
It’s part of the more than $2.4 billion invested in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014.
Ms Horne acknowledged Hobsons Bay City Council for investing more than $3.8 million in the project, and Altona Hockey Club for contributing $23,000.
